Notes:
The game is York's second victory over a top 10 team in school history and their first top ten win on the road … the victory is the first win over Roanoke in the four game series … York had been outscored 42-12 in two previous trips to Roanoke with both trips coming under former head coach Jim Griffin … York's 4-0 start is the best under the guidance of head coach Brandon Childs … The 4-0 start ties the 2011 squad who also started 4-0 … both teams ended the game with 24 ground balls but York got a number of key 50/50 ground balls in the game, especially in the second half … Roanoke outshot York 41-36 … The victory is the 40th career win for senior goalie Caleb Abney ... Abney has 18 more wins than any other goalie in school history ... The Maroons won 11 face offs while York was credited with 10 wins at the X … Roanoke came into the game leading the ODAC in scoring as they were averaging 16 goals per game while they were only allowing seven goals against … Roanoke was whistled for six penalties for six minutes, just one under their season average of seven penalties per game … Roanoke entered the game 7-for-8 in the man advantage but York held them to 0-2 as the Green and White had just 1:30 of penalty time on two penalties in the game … York has now outscored their opponents 17-4 in the third quarter and 15-2 in the first quarter of their four games this year … Andrew Gamble passed his brother Josh for second in career goals scored as he now has 122, passing Josh's total of 120 … Andrew passed Josh in total points in Saturday's win over McDaniel …. In interesting symmetry, York has outshot their opponents 43-21 for the year in both the first and second quarters of their four games this year … York is now 4-of-14 in man up situations this year while their opponents are now 2-for-12, much to the credit of the man down unit and man-down goalie James Anderson.
They Said It:
"We won a tough game today because we took care of ground balls. Our tough guys, who do all the little things but don't always get recognized on the stat sheet, won us the game today. Conrad Ordakowski, Christopher Lees, Jake Katchmark, and J.D. Beck were unbelievably tough in the midfield today. Our defense was great on their dangerous attack and those guys won their match ups today. Game like today, they aren't won on game day. They are won in the weight room in the winter and on the practice field in early February. I am proud of our team."
– Spartan head coach Brandon Childs
