Spartans Roll Past Wesley in Soggy CAC Contest

YORK, PA - York College sophomore Lindsay Nye continued her torrid scoring pace as she led the Spartans to a 5-0 win over Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action on a rainy Saturday afternoon in York.

How it happened:

• The Spartans pressured the Wesley defense from the start as they took the first five shots of the game. The fifth shot found the back of the cage to get the scoring started. The goal came from a pass from the top of the circle from Lindsay Nye to Autumn Mallory which was deflected for the goal. The goal came with 16:44 remaining in the first half.

• York scored again just under ten minutes later as Gretta Plappert flicked a shot off of a rebounded shot on the goalie for the 2-0 lead. The goal was Plappert's second of the year.

Lindsay Nye scored her first goal of the game with 4:50 remaining in the first half off of a pass from Ali Posey as the Spartans extended the lead to 3-0.

• The Spartans dominated the first half as they outshot the Wolverines 15-0 in addition to having a 7-0 margin in penalty corners.

• Nye started off the second half with a bang as she scored off of a rebounded shot 4:54 into the second stanza. The goal was Nye's 13th of the year.

Paige Taylor closed out the scoring with a breakaway goal in the game's 48th minute. The goal was her seventh of the year and closed out the scoring.

Game Notes:

Sophomore Lindsay Nye is on fire so far this season she has scored at least one goal in the last eight straight games …  Nye has had two games where she scored where she scored two goals or more … Nye leads the Capital Atlantic Conference in goals (13), and she also leads the Spartans in goals while she is also ranked first in points in the CAC (30) …  The Spartans are now on a three game winning streak since their loss at Elizabethtown …. York is now 11-8 all-time against the Wolverines as they have won four straight in the series …. York has outscored Wesley 18-5 in the the last four games between the two squads ..... the Spartans now have four players who have reached double figures in points as Nye (30), Autumn Mallory (15), Paige Taylor (14), and Ali Posey (12) have all reached that plateau … Nye and Taylor each have three game-winning goals for York while Mallory and Posey each have one … York had 10 penalty corners and that is the sixth time this year they have reached double figures in corners … the shutout was York's third of the season.

 

Up Next:

The Spartans are back in action on Wednesday October 5 when they are on the road at Stevenson College for a 7:00 pm game. YCP will return home on Saturday October 8 to host Lynchburg in their final non-conference game of the year. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
