Box Score LANCASTER, PA – The York College women's soccer team
remains in search of their first non-conference victory of the year
as the Spartans fell to Franklin & Marshall, 1-0, on Wednesday
in Lancaster, PA. The Spartans, who are 4-1 in the Capital Athletic
Conference, fall to 4-7-1 overall while the Diplomats improve to
6-3 for 2010.
After a scoreless first half, the second 45 minutes was much of
the same. The Spartans began clicking on offense midway through the
stanza as they had a ten-minute stretch where they fired off five
of their seven shots of the half. Diplomat goalie Hannah Barry was
forced to make three saves in that stretch as she kept the Spartans
off the board.
The Diplomats broke the scoreless deadlock with a Nancy Epstein
goal with just 5:43 remaining in the game. Epstein hit a shot from
25 yards out that eluded Spartan goalie Sarah Spanarkel and found the back of the net for the
game-winner.
The Spartans' last gasp at forcing an extra session came
when Kat Sipes hit a header with just under three
minutes remaining. Barry made the save on Sipes, preserving the
Diplomat victory.
Barry earned the win as she recorded the clean sheet with six
saves. Spanarkel played well but absorbed the loss as she recorded
three saves.
The Spartans outshot their hosts 10-9 while the Green and White
also held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
York returns to conference play on Saturday afternoon when they
travel to St. Mary's College in a key CAC clash. Kick off in
St. Mary's City, MD is set for 2:00 pm.
