DOVER, DE-The York College field hockey squad dropped their
fourth straight as the green and white fell to Wesley College 3-1
in a Capital Athletic Conference contest on Tuesday in Dover,
Del. The Spartans fall to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the
CAC while the Wolverines improve to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in
the conference.
The Spartans fell behind early as Taryn Neeman scored off a
Danielle Vincent pass on a penalty corner in the tenth minute of
the game. The goal was Neeman's fifth of the year and gave
the hosts an early lead. The rest of the half was scoreless as the
hosts took the 1-0 lead to the break. The Wolverines held an 8-6
margin in shots and an 8-3 bulge in penalty corners in the opening
half.
The green and white opened the second half scoring as
Jami Hassler (Derwood, Md./Magruder) fed
Megan Spangler (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon
County) with a nice pass that Spangler was able to convert
for the goal just over 10 minutes into the half. The goal was
Spangler's first of the year.
It took Neeman just over five minutes to break the tie as she
converted a shot from seven yards out for an unassisted goal as the
Wolverines captured the lead with 19:25 remaining in regulation.
Wesley got a key insurance tally just under six minutes later as
Nicole Hill fed Brooke Tadlock for the goal with 13:32 left in the
game.
The Wolverines would not allow a Spartan shot the rest of the
game as Wesley earned the conference win.
LeAnne Hyslop earned the win in goal for the Wolverines. She
registered five saves as she improves to 6-1. Spartan sophomore
Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford Senior)
notched eight saves for the green and white in the loss.
Wesley outshot the Spartans 16-8 for the game while they held a
significant 14-5 edge in penalty corners.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday as
they host Villa Julie in a CAC contest. The match is slated
to begin at 4:30 pm at Kinsley Field.
