DOVER, DE-The York College field hockey squad saw their 2007
campaign come to an end with a 1-0 loss at Wesley College in the
Capital Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals on
Sunday in Dover, DE. The Spartans conclude their campaign with a
mark of 6-15 while the Wolverines improve to 12-4 in their first
year in the CAC.
The Wolverines struck for the game's lone just 1:39 into
the game as Susan Neylan hit paydirt on a shot from 10 yards to the
right of the cage. The goal was Neylan's seventh of the year.
The Spartans managed just one first half shot to four for the
Wolverines while both teams had five penalty corners.
The second half saw the Wolverines carry a majority of the play
as they held a 7-2 advantage in total shots and an 8-4 bulge in
penalty corners. York had just two shots on goal the entire day
while the Wolverines managed just four shots on target for the
match.
LeAnne Hyslop registered two saves in recording the win. Spartan
sophomore Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford
Senior) made three stops in the loss.
Wesley advances to the CAC semifinals against St.
Mary's on Wednesday afternoon.
