FROSTBURG, MD-The York College field hockey squad saw their disappointing 2007 regular season come to a close with a 4-1 non-conference loss at Frostburg State on a damp Thursday afternoon in Frostburg, MD. The Spartans conclude the campaign with a mark of 6-14 while the Bobcats improve to 10-5.

The Spartans got on the board first as the combination of Jami Hassler (Derwood, Md./Magruder) and April McFarland (York, Pa./Eastern York) teamed for York's first goal. Hassler fed McFarland for her team-leading 11th tally of the year. The assist was Hassler's team-best 10th of the campaign. McFarland's goal came 5:11 into the game.

The Bobcats tied the game just over six minutes later as Michelle Frost scored on a penalty corner. Kelly Filipowicz then put the hosts on top in the 26th minute as she notched an unassisted goal.

Frostburg took the 2-1 lead to the break as they outshot the green and white 10-7 while they also held a 5-3 edge in penalty corners.

The Bobcats added to the lead in the 44th minute thanks to a Britteny Blystone goal. Filipowicz closed out the scoring with her second goal of the game in the 58th minute as the Spartans suffered their second straight loss.

Amanda Runion earned the win in goal as she notched six saves in her 70 minutes of action. Spartan goalie Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford Senior) continues to play well despite the constant opponent pressure. Rekitzke made ten saves as she allowed four goals.

The Bobcats finished the game with a 24-12 margin in total shots while Frostburg had six penalty corners to four for the green and white.

The Spartans open the Capital Athletic Conference tournament on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Wesley to face the Wolverines in the quarterfinal round. The match is slated to begin at 1:00 pm in Dover, Del. The Wolverines are the tournament's three seed while the Spartans are the sixth seed.
