YORK, PA - The York College women's soccer team tied visiting
Gettysburg College 0-0 in non-conference action Wednesday
evening. A disappointing result for the Spartan squad, the
green and white moves to 8-4-2 (4-1 CAC) for the season, while the
Bullets now sport a 3-9-1 record.
The match began slow, as neither team recorded a shot until
York's first attempt 12:12 into the game. Emily
Sullivan's (Bowie,
Md. / Archbishop Spalding) first
strike on goal led to two more shots all within a span of 1:17.
Bullet goalkeeper Danielle St. Pierre was up to the challenge as
she turned away all three Spartans attempts during the flurry.
Proceeding to register the match's first six shots, the Spartans
did not allow an attempt on their own net until the 33rd
minute. Although the green and white had the better of the
play, tallying eight shots to Gettysburg's two, the sides went into
break scoreless.
Nearly four minutes into the second half, the Bullets were
poised to go up 1-0 as Lauren Walsh knocked a header toward the
Spartan net. York goalkeeper Meagan Cahill (Crofton,
Md. / Arundel) made a lunging one-handed save to keep
Gettysburg off the board.
In the 57th minute, Jackie Moser
(Baltimore,
Md. / Sparrows Point) took a shot
for the green and white that seemed destined for paydirt. The
sophomore defender hit a ripper from outside the box that she sent
flying toward the far upper 90. Unfortunately, for Moser and
rest of the Spartans the ball sailed just wide of the goal and the
score remained at zero.
Both sides would battle throughout the rest of regulation and
both overtime periods with neither squad able to break
through.
For the Spartans, Kali MacGregor
(Rockville,
Md. / Academy of the Holy Cross)
played exceptionally well from her defensive position. The
physical junior bottled up several Bullet attacks and controlled
much of the defensive midfield for York.
Over the 110 minutes of action, the green and white registered
23 total shots including 12 in the second stanza to go along with
six corners. Gettysburg was only able to manage seven shots
while tallying four corner kicks.
Cahill made five saves on the day for the Spartans, while her
counterpart, St. Pierre, made eight stops. Both goalkeepers
played well in earning their respective shutouts.
The Spartans hit the road for their next four matches before
returning home on October 24 to face Catholic in their final
regular season game. York visits Marymount this Friday as
game time in Arlington, Va. is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
