Spartan Field Hockey Upends #5 Hopkins in OT

BALTIMORE, Md. - The York College field hockey team knocked off No. 5 Johns Hopkins, 2-1, at rain-soaked Homewood Field on Tuesday night courtesy of an Olivia Miller penalty stroke in overtime.

Team Records
#5 Johns Hopkins: 4-3
York: 4-3

How It Happened
The game boiled down to one pivotal moment when Kelbie Linebaugh stole the ball off the stick of Caeli Robinson and sprinted 60 yards on a wide open breakaway. Linebaugh was fouled by Hopkins goalie Jessica Lapidus inside the circle which awarded York a penalty stroke. With rain pouring down, Miller stepped in to take the stroke and zipped a low shot past a diving Aubrey Kilgore who subbed back into the game to defend the stroke.

The Spartans put the pressure on the Jays early and jumped out to 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when Kate Egan tipped in a pass from Eliza Staub for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. York put two more shots on goal later in the first quarter and finished the period with five to just one by Hopkins.

Hopkins turned the tables in the second quarter and out-shot the Spartans, 9-1, with a 4-2 advantage in penalty corners. On their third corner of the quarter, the Jays evened up the score, 1-1, when Kaitlin Coward finished a feed from Robinson for her second goal of the year.

The game tightened up in the second half as the two teams combined for just 10 total shots with York putting three of their four total shots on goal, all of which were saved, which set the table for the thrilling overtime finish.
