Spartans Split in Series Opener Against St. Mary's College of Maryland

Urban hits his first long ball of the season

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The York baseball team opened up a three-game series against St. Mary's College of Maryland with a doubleheader, Saturday afternoon. The Spartans split against the Seahawks, taking game one by a score of 6-2, and dropping game two, 8-2. 

Game One

Highlights 
The Spartans rallied to score five runs in the first inning. Lucas Prendergast led off the game with a hit by pitch. Joe Urban followed and belted a home run down the left field line. Later in the inning, the Spartans tacked on three more runs with RBI singles from Brett Michael, Ethan Hotchkiss, and Jackson Ford. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Seahawks scored their only two runs of the game with RBI singles from Eli Shafer and Will Wilson. 

The Green and White plated the final run of the game in the sixth with an RBI triple from Alex Neeld, extending the lead to 6-2. 

Konnor Reeser started on the bump for the Spartans, tossing 5.2 innings and surrendering two earned runs on six hits. Reeser walked three and struck out six. 

Eric Chaney and Jason Cassidy came in for relief, recording clean sheets.

Highlights 
York opened up the scoring in the first inning, with Lucas Prendergast crossing the plate on Alex Neeld's groundout. 

The Seahawks tied it up in the bottom of the second, scoring on a Spartan error. 

Between innings four and seven, St. Mary's put up five more unanswered runs, three of which were unearned. 

The Spartans broke their silence in the top half of the eighth, with Luke Moser scoring on a Lucas Prendergast single. 

St. Mary's responded with two more insurance runs in the bottom half, solidifying the victory. 

Brian McDermott started for the Green and White, allowing seven hits and three run, none of which were earned. In four innings of work, McDermott walked three and struck out three. 

Jake Ludwig and Eric Chaney tossed two innings each. 

Notes
York is now 52-14 all-time against St. Mary's and York snapped its 13 game win streak versus the Seahawks … the Spartans are now 2-4 on the road this season and the Seahawks are 4-2 at home.
