YORK, Pa. – The York College softball team hosted #16 Christopher Newport on Saturday, picking up a split in the twin bill. The Spartans won the first game, 8-7, before dropping game two, 13-5.

How It Happened
Bri McKeown drew a based-loaded walk in the bottom of the first to get York on the board.
The Captains pulled ahead 3-1 in the second on a three-run home run.
The Spartans evened up the score in the bottom of the second.
Kyrsten Coppage crossed the plate on a fielder's choice, and
Ashlyn Weigle scored on an RBI groundout from
Gretchen Barstad.
In the top of the fifth, Christopher Newport grabbed a run on a groundout to pull ahead, 4-3.
Eric Clancy came in the score on an error for the Spartans in the bottom of the fifth.
Bri McKeown brought in
Sara DeFrancesco on an RBI single later in the inning.
The Captains regained the lead in the sixth on a walk and a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Danella Silagy scored on a fielder's choice to knot it up, 6-6.
In extras, Christopher Newport struck first, grabbing the 7-6 lead on a sac fly.
An RBI single from Barstad tied it up for the Spartans in the bottom of the eighth.
Barstad later scored on a throwing error, as the Green and White grabbed the walk-off win.
Natalie Rietema spun the complete game for the Spartans, allowing two hits, five earned runs, and 18 walks in 8.0 innings of work. Rietema struck out six Captains.

How It Happened
Christopher Newport opening the scoring in the first, putting up four runs in the top half of the inning.
York answered back with authority, scoring five runs of their own in the bottom of the first.
Danella Silagy crossed the plate first for the Spartans, coming in on the throw to second from the Captain's catcher.
Bri McKeown followed that up with a grand slam later in the inning, grabbing the 5-4 lead for the Green and White.
In the top of the second inning, Christopher Newport tallied two more runs.
The Captains added four more insurance tallies on the top of the fourth, making it 11-5.
Two more Captains crossed the plate in the fifth, solidifying the victory for Christopher Newport.
Kyrsten Coppage and
Gretchen Barstad split time in the circle for York.
Coppage tossed 4.1 innings, conceding eight hits, nine earned runs, and three walks.
Barstad came in for 0.2 innings, allowing five hits, four earned runs, and one walk.
