#8 Men’s Lacrosse Outlasts Hampden-Sydney

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - The No. 8 York men's lacrosse team used tough defense and opportunistic offense in the fourth quarter to close out a 12-10 victory at Hampden-Sydney on Saturday.

Team Records
Hampden-Sydney: 5-6
#8 York: 8-1

Highlights
After going back-and-forth all day, the Tigers tied the game for the sixth time with a goal five seconds into the fourth quarter. The Spartans wound up scoring two pairs of goals sandwiched around a Hampden-Sydne man-up goal to take a 12-9 lead with 3:00 to play. After going scoreless for over seven minutes, the Tigers got back on the board again with 51 seconds left, but the Spartan defense came up with a big stop on the ensuing possession to seal the win.

The Tigers threw everything they had at York in the fourth quarter, but the Spartan defense stood their ground and the offense made the most of their limited opportunities. Hampden-Sydney won seven of the eight faceoffs in the final quarter and out-shot the Spartans, 16-6, but Nash Womack posted four saves for York and the Spartan man-down defense killed off two out of the three Tiger extra-man opportunities in the final frame.

Gavin Gismondi led all players with five goals, which ties his career-high with York, and scored two of York's fourth quarter goals. Cory Bergmann racked up four points on the day and also delivered in the pivotal fourth quarter with the game-winning goal and an assist.
