Rietema Tosses No-Hitter in Game One, Softball Sweeps Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The York College softball team traveled east to face Arcadia in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Spartans swept the Knights, winning 10-1 (F/6) and 13-2 (F/6). The Green and White improve to 9-1 on the season.

How It Happened
The Spartans scored early and often to open up the game, tallying five runs across the first three innings of play. 

Alexis McDonaugh opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first. 

Danella Silagy doubled home three more Spartans in the second, as Allison Hunsberger, Kyrsten Coppage, and Bri McKeown crossed the plate to make it 4-0. 

Noelle Smith tacked on a solo home run in the third, extending the York lead to 5-0. 

The Knights scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth. 

York went on to score five more unanswered runs to close out the game. 

McKeown crossed the plate first in the sixth, before McDonaugh walked to force home another run for the Green and White. 

A double off the bat of Sara DeFrancesco tacked on two more runs for York, before Smith singled home the last insurance run.  

Natalie Rietema earned the win for the Spartans, improving to 5-1 on the season. Rietema spun a no hitter and struck out three Knights in the game, allowing only one unearned run and two walks along the way.

How It Happened
The Spartans wasted no time, jumping out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning of game two. 

DeFrancesco doubled home Barstad an Silagy to get York on the board first. 

DeFrancesco then scored on a double-steal, as McKeown swiped second on the overthrow. 

Kate Miller and Coppage followed that up with back-to-back RBI singles, extending the lead to 5-0 for the White and Black. 

Arcadia grabbed one run back in the bottom of the first to make it 5-1. 

In the top of the second, McDonaugh doubled home another run for the Spartans. 

Two more runs were played for York in the third, as Hunsberger knocked a two-RBI single up the middle. 

Following a run for the Knights in the bottom of the third, York went on to score five more unanswered to run away with game two. 

In the top of the sixth inning, DeFrancesco began the scoring with an RBI triple down the line. 

DeFrancesco later crossed the plate on a fielding error by Arcadia. 

A 2-RBI Mavica Mendez single was followed by a Barstad RBI single, plating the final two York runs and solidifying the 13-2 victory. 

Courtney Freese started the game in the circle for the Spartans, tossing three innings. Freese allowed only two earned runs and two hits, walking six and striking out four along the way. 

Barstad came in for relief, spinning three innings and collecting the win for the Green and White. Barstad allowed two hits, zero runs, and zero walks, while striking out four.

Spartan Notes
York is now 6-2 all-time against Arcadia … The Spartans now hold a four game win-streak over the Knights … York now holds a 5-1 road record over Arcadia.
