Spartan Rally Comes Up Short Against CNU

YORK, Pa. - The sixth-ranked York women's lacrosse team scored five goals in a fourth-quarter rally, but still came up short in a 13-12 loss to No. 25 Christopher Newport at home on Saturday.

Highlights
After falling behind by five deep into the fourth quarter, the Spartans made a furious late rally with five goals in the final nine minutes, including three in the last four and cut the Newport lead down to one with 40 seconds to go. The Captains won the ensuing draw and bled out the clock to hold off York's surge and escape with the win.

The Captains turned the tide with a pivotal third quarter performance in which they posted a shutout and scored twice to take a 11-7 lead. The Spartans contributed to their own woes with six turnovers in the period which spoiled a six-save effort by Audrey Simoes. 

Simoes bailed the Spartans out time and time again on the day as she made a career-high 16 saves which is tied for the fourth-most in program history.
