#9 Spartans Pull Away from Grove City Late at Tierney Field

SPARKS, Md. - The No. 9 York men's lacrosse team used a big fourth quarter to put away Grove City in a 17-9 victory at William G. Tierney Field on Saturday night.

Team Records
Grove City: 2-7
#9 York: 7-1

Highlights
The Spartans ripped off seven-straight goals in the fourth quarter to put the game to bed after Grove City cut the margin to 10-8 with back-to-back goals to start the final quarter. York also relied on a stellar defensive effort throughout the second half as they limited the Wolverines to just three goals and posted a third-quarter shutout.

The game started out with both teams making first-quarter runs as York owned a 5-3 lead at the end of the first 15 minutes of play. The second quarter went back-and-forth and resulted in a 9-6 York lead, but not after Stewart McClain scored a juice goal for Grove City with 0.03 seconds left. The Wolverines' momentum was stifled as they were held without a goal in the third quarter and later snuffed out for good when the Spartans went on their big fourth-quarter run.

Up Next
The Spartans travel to Hampden-Sydney next Saturday for a non-conference tilt starting at 1 p.m.
