York Tops Trinity 12-11 In Double Overtime

YORK, Pa. - The sixth-ranked York women's lacrosse team edged out a 12-11 victory over No. 21 Trinity College (Conn.) in a back-and-forth battle at Kinsley Field on Wednesday.

Highlights
The momentum shifts started early, as the Spartans jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Goals from Abby Tartal and Krista Yarusso helped York grab this lead seven minutes in. The Bantams then cut the lead in half. Each team scored after, to close out the quarter, 3-2. 

In the second, the Bantams offense outscored the Spartans, 4-1. The lone York goal came from Kiera McPhillips, assisted by Riley Coltonback. Trinity College took a 6-4 lead into the half. 

The Spartans came out hot, scoring six goals in the third quarter, with Kate Feldman accounting for three scores. Abby Tartal, Maddie Ross, and Lauren Gillies tallied the other three York goals. The Green and White surrendered one in the third quarter, pulling ahead 10-7. 

Trinity scored a quick goal in the fourth quarter to get within two of the Spartans. Kiera McPhillips added an insurance goal for York shortly after. The Bantums closed the gap from there, before Trinity's Lily Accera eventually tied the game and sent it to overtime, tied at 11-11. 

In the first overtime, both teams were held to one shot a piece. 

In double overtime, with under a minute remaining, Riley Coltenback was fouled and awarded a free position shot She buried the game winning goal, granting the Spartans the 12-11 victory. 

Audrey Simoes was in the goal for York, tallying eight saves. She improves to 3-1 on the season.

The Spartans are back at home on Saturday to take on No. 25 Christopher Newport at noon.

Notes
York improved to 2-1 all-time against Trinity College … The last time the Spartans faced the Bantams was in 2018 with the Green and White winning, 16-15 ... the two programs have now had two matches decided by one goal.
