York Opens Up Conference Play With Split Against Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The York baseball team traveled to Eastern University Saturday to open up conference play against the Eagles. On a windy afternoon, the Spartans split with Eastern, winning game two, 6-5.

Highlights 
York tacked on two runs in the top of the first inning. Luke Moser scored on an Alex Neeld groundout. Later in the inning, Richard Kline hit a solo home run. 

The Spartans added two more runs in the fourth inning. Neeld led off the inning with a single. Matthew Wade then laced a double to right field, scoring Neeld. Brett Michael followed with an RBI single.

Eastern added a run in the bottom half of the fourth, as Matthew Gonglik hit a home run. 

Wade added his second double of the game in the top of the sixth inning. He later scored on a Brett Michael sacrifice fly.

The Eagles chopped the Spartan lead to 5-3 in the bottom half of the sixth inning. 

Eastern squared up the score, 5-5 in the seventh inning. Luke Meehan singled through the left side. Matt McSorley followed, hitting a two-run home run to right center.

The Spartans took the lead in the top of the ninth inning, as Prendergast led off with a double. Luke Moser then laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing Prendergast to third. The Eagles got the second out of the inning, before intentionally walking Richard Kline. Wade stepped into the box and hit a single to right field, scoring Prendergast.

Jason Cassidy closed it out for the Spartans, preserving the lead and earning his second save of the season.
 
Konnor Reeser started on the mound for the Green and White, tossing six innings while allowing three runs on seven hits. Reeser walked three and struck out four.

Sam Ross came in for relief and recorded the win for the Spartans. In two innings of work, Ross surrendered two runs on three hits. Ross struck out three Eagles and walked two.

Highlights 
Eastern got on the board first, scoring five runs in the bottom of the third inning. 

The Eagles took a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning when Trent MacGougall hit a two-run home run. 

The lone Spartan run came in the top of the fifth inning. Lucas Prendergast hit a home run to right center. 

The Spartans tallied six hits. Richard Kline accounted for two of the Spartan hits, roping two doubles. 

Notes
York is now 14-10 all-time against Eastern … the Spartans are now 5-5 away against the Eagles … Prendergast now has a nine-game hit streak.
