Spartan Women’s Lacrosse Prevails in Top-10 Tilt with F&M

YORK, Pa. - The fifth-ranked York women's lacrosse team edged out a 12-11 victory over No. 10 Franklin and Marshall in a back-and-forth battle at Kinsley Field on Wednesday.

Team Records
#10 Franklin and Marshall: 1-3
#5 York: 4-0

Highlights
The momentum shifts started early and sustained throughout the contest. The Diplomats created the first wave as they jumped out to a 2-0 in the first seven minutes, but the Spartans came storming back with five-straight goals, including three by Sydney Mentzer, to take a 5-2 lead less than a minute into the second quarter.

F&M's Alexandra Proefrock broke up York's run with a tally early on in the second quarter, but York went right back to work and scored five of the next six goals, including four-straight, to take a commanding 10-4 lead with 2:28 left before halftime. The Diplomats would go into halftime quietly and regained some valuable momentum as they ripped off three-straight goals in the final two minutes, including two by Blaine Cosby who ended the first half with four.

After a furious finish to the first half, both teams started slow offensively to open the third quarter until Kiera McPhillips scored for York over seven minutes into the quarter to take a 11-7 lead. The Dips answered with two more goals to end the third and tacked on a third-straight early in the fourth as they trailed 11-10 with 10:33 left.

McPhillips came through again for York to put the Spartans up two, but Lauren Pittman cut the York lead back to one with 8:53 to play. The Diplomats won the ensuing draw, but the Spartan defense went on to post four-straight stops to close out the win, including a stand when F&M regained possession with less than a minute to go.
