Kline's Pinch-Hit Home Run Propels York Past Misericordia

YORK, Pa. - The York baseball hosted Misericordia University, Wednesday afternoon. In a back-and-forth battle, the Spartans defeated the Cougars by a score of 9-8.

Highlights 
York scored first in the bottom of the first inning. Lucas Prendergast led off the game with a double to center. Two batters later, Alex Neeld belted a homer to center, giving the Spartans an early 2-0 lead. 

In the third inning, the Cougars tied it up at 2-2.

The Green and White regained the lead in the fourth inning. With two runners on, Jackson Ford singled up the middle, plating both Brett Michael and Matthew Wade. 

Misericordia knotted it up, 4-4, in the top of the fifth. 

The Cougars pulled ahead in the top of the sixth inning, executing a squeeze play that was followed by a RBI single. 

In the bottom half of the inning, the Spartans responded. Misericordia committed three errors in the field, allowing Mac Keating, Luke Moser, and Bryce Avery to score and take a 7-6 lead. 

Misericordia tied it up again in the top of the seventh inning. Michael Duda hit a single to left field to score Owen Daminger. 

In the top of the eighth, the Cougars tacked on their eighth run of the game off a sacrifice fly to left field. 

The Spartans ignited a two-out rally in the bottom half of the eighth. Bryce Avery doubled down the right field line. Richard Kline then came in to pinch-hit. On a 1-1 count, Kline blasted a home run to center field, giving York a 9-8 lead. 

Jason Cassidy closed out the game for the Spartans on the bump, recording the save. 

Jake Ludwig started on the mound for York. In four innings of work, he allowed six hits and two runs, while striking out one. 

Eric Chaney earned the win, tossing 2.1 innings in relief. Chaney allowed a hit, two runs (one earned), and struck out one. 

Notes
York is now 2-3 all-time against Misericordia … the Spartans are now 2-1 at home against the Cougars … Prendergast now has four-straight multi-hit games … Jason Cassidy earned the first save of the Spartan season.
