Spartans Fall to Penn State Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The York baseball team traveled to Penn State Harrisburg to take on the Nittany Lions, Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans made a late comeback in the eighth inning, but fell to the Nittany Lions in the ninth, 8-7.

Highlights 
Penn State Harrisburg took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly. 

The Nittany Lions added three more runs in the second inning, extending the lead to 4-0. 

York put its first run on the board in the top of the third inning, as Lucas Prendergast doubled down the right field line, scoring Brett Michael

The Spartans scored again in the top of the fourth inning. Alex Neeld scored on a fielder's choice. 

In the seventh inning, York cut the lead to 4-3, as Jackson Ford scored on a Nittany Lions' passed ball. 

The Green and White took the lead from the Lions in the eighth inning. Matthew Wade started the rally with a leadoff double, and Mac Keaning followed by reaching on an error to put runners on first and third. Luke Moser then delivered a triple, driving in both Wade and Keaning. York added two more runs with a bases-loaded walk and hit-by-pitch from Prendergast and Jason Cassidy, giving the Spartans a 7-4 lead.

The Nittany Lions closed in on the Spartan lead in the bottom half of the eighth, scoring two runs off of a single from Coy Schwanger.

The Spartans went three up, three down in the top of the ninth. 

In the bottom of the ninth, Harrisburg completed the comeback. The Lions tied it up at 7-7, reaching on a Spartan error. With the winning run at third, Tim Haftl drove a double to center, walking it off, 8-7.

CJ Scism started on the bump for the Spartans. Pitching five innings, he allowed four hits, four runs, two earned runs, and struck out four. 

Jason Cassidy drew the loss for the Spartans, allowing two hits and two runs, neither earned.

York is now 9-9 all-time against Penn State Harrisburg … the Spartans are now 7-4 on the road against the Lions … two Spartans had a multi-hit game in today's contest … Prendergast now has three-straight multi-hit games … Mathew Wade has two-straight multi-hit games … Luke Moser had a season-high three runs batted in.
