Spartans Come Up Short Despite Slowing Down #15 Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - The York College men's basketball put the governor on a high-powered Hood offense, but it was not enough as the Spartans fell, 69-61, on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Hood, who entered the day with the fourth-best scoring offense in Division III at 95.5 points per game, was held to 26 points below their season average, but still managed to grind out a victory as the Spartans shot a season-low 32.4% from the field and just 15.8% from three-point range.

Team Records
#15 Hood: 19-2 (10-0 MACC)
York: 16-5 (6-4 MACC)

How It Happened
Hood scored the first points of the game and stretched the lead to double-digits (16-6) less than four minutes after the opening tip. Over the next 10 minutes, the Blazers continued to build their lead and eventually doubled-up the Spartans, 34-17, with 5:26 left in the first half.

York reeled Hood back in as they out-scored the Blazers 12-5 in the final five minutes of the first half with Tate Landis leading the charge with six points during that span to cut Blazer lead to 39-29 at the break. Kullen Robinson led all players with 13 points in the first half and Ben Troyer led the way for York with 10. York's three-point struggles also played a big factor in the first half outcome as they shot an uncharacteristic 3-for-20 from beyond the arc.

Jayden Rowe scored the first four points of the second half which cut the Hood lead to six (39-33) and the margin remained largely unchanged for the next six minutes of play. The Blazers did push their lead up to 12, their largest of the second half, with 11:18 left, but then York silenced the Hood offense for the next five minutes to cut the margin back down to six with under seven minutes to play.

Tate Landis cut York's deficit to five down to five (63-58) on a three-pointer with 2:08 left, but the Spartans could not get it down to a one-possession differential as they shot just 1-for-6 the rest of the way.

Up Next
The Spartans are back on the road on Wednesday with a trip to Stevenson for a Commonwealth contest slated for a 7 p.m. start.
