How It Happened

York opened the game on an 8-0 run and stretched the lead to 11 five minutes into the contest with a score of 15-4. York's lead would remain at double digits the rest of the half and swelled to as much as 19 with 1:43 left to play before the break.

The Spartans shot a collective 53.8% from the field through the first 20 minutes of play, including 43.8% (7-for-16) from three-point range, while holding the Golden Wolves to 40.7% (11-for-27) from the field. Jayden Rowe led all players in the first half with 17 points on a 50.0% shooting display from the field.

York's lead continued to grow as the second half began and reached a high water mark of 20 points when a Nick Schroeder three-pointer put the Spartans ahead 53-33 with 18:24 left to play. The Spartan lead dipped slightly and hovered around 15 until a pair of Robert Cottrell free throws cut the lead down to eight with 12:56 remaining. Over the next seven minutes, York kept Alvernia at an arm's length as Rowe scored 13 of York's 16 points to put his team ahead by 11 with 5:59 left.

The remainder of the game belonged solely to the Golden Wolves as they finished the game on a 17-3 run with Mason Jones (7) and Cottrell (6) combining for 13 of their team's 17 points. Elijah Hamilton gave Alvernia their first lead of the game on a layup with 1:25 left and the Golden Wolves held on by the skin of their teeth as they watched the Spartans miss four-straight three-point attempts to end the game.

The Spartans shot just 1-for-8 from the field, including 1-for-7 from beyond the arc in the final five minutes, and finished the second shooting 41.4% from the field.
