#12 Men’s Lacrosse Wins Season Opener Against #10 Washington and Lee

YORK, Pa. - The No. 12 York men's lacrosse team opened the 2026 campaign with a 10-8 victory in a nationally-ranked showdown with No. 10 Washington and Lee at home on Saturday.

Highlights
The Spartans jumped out to an early multi-goal lead and posted a first-quarter shutout which forced the Generals to play from behind the rest of the way. York also won the third quarter, 3-1, and never surrendered consecutive W&L goals in the second half as they closed the victory leading from start to finish.

Coleton Mahorney and Gavin Gismondi led the Spartan offense with three goals as five total Spartans finished the day with three points. Colin Kane had a big day on the defensive end with career-highs in caused turnovers (4) and ground balls (5). Nash Womack backstopped the defensive unit with 11 saves, including four in the fourth quarter when the Generals racked up a game-high nine shots. Brady Watts led the York faceoff unit with a 10-for-18 effort with a team-high six ground balls.

Up Next
The Spartans hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Franklin and Marshall next Saturday for a noon start.

Notes
The Spartans improved to 9-5 all-time against Washington and Lee since the series began in 2006 … eight of the last 10 meetings between these two programs have been decided by a margin of two goals or less, including the last five-straight meetings … York is a perfect 6-0 against W&L on Kinsley Field … the Spartans are 6-2 against the Generals in season openers … York has won its season opener in consecutive years and is 12-3 in openers under head coach Brandon Childs.
