#7 Men’s Lacrosse Holds Off F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. - The No. 7 York men's lacrosse team held off a late surge by Franklin and Marshall to score a nail-biting 9-8 road victory on Saturday.

Team Records
#7 York: 2-0
(RV) Franklin and Marshall: 2-1

Highlights
Despite surrendering three fourth-quarter goals, the Spartan defense put together another strong performance as they held their second opponent to single digits in as many games this season. Senior defenseman Colin Kane again highlighted the defensive effort with a career-high tying four caused turnovers and a career-best seven ground balls, both which led all players on the day. Senior goalie Nash Womack posted his second-straight double-digit save performance of the season with 10 on the day.

The Spartans won both the first and third quarters by 3-1 margins and owned an 8-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Dips scored back-to-back goals to start the fourth and cut the margin to one, but a Gavin Gismondi tally with 5:37 left proved to be huge for York as F&M scored once more with under four minutes to play.

York won the final faceoff and killed a minute off clock before turning it over and the Diplomats coughed it up on their final two possessions without getting a shot off before time expired.

Up Next
The Spartans return home on Sunday, March 1 to take on Kenyon at 1 p.m.

Notes
The Spartans improved to 8-1 all-time against Franklin and Marshall since the series began in 2002 … York has won the last eight meetings with the Diplomats … the last two meetings have both been decided by one goal … the last time the York defense held back-to-back opponents to single digits to start a season was 2022.
