Top-Seeded York Rolls Past Widener On Way to Commonwealth Final

YORK, Pa. - The top-seeded York College field hockey team defeated fourth-seeded Widener, 3-0, at home on Wednesday in a Commonwealth semifinal round matchup.

Team Records
Widener: 9-9
#14 York: 15-4

How It Happened
The Spartans pumped in a pair of goals a minute apart in the second quarter to take full control of the game. Kelbie Linebaugh scored the first goal of the game on the first shot of the second quarter and 61 seconds later Aliza Staub knocked in a long-range rebound from the left wing.

York tacked on a third goal for good measure late in the fourth quarter. After the Spartans were denied three times, Widener failed to clear the ball and it landed on the stick of Kelsey Welsh  who knocked it in for her third goal of the season.

The Spartans dominated the boxscore as they out-shot the Pride, 27-2, with a 22-1 shot on goal margin. York also posted a 13-0 margin in penalty corners. Widener goalie Emma Korenthal raked up 17 saves in cage.

Up Next
The Spartans will be back at Kinsley Field on Saturday when they host No. 5 Stevenson in the Commonwealth Final slated for a noon start.
