Landis Hat Trick Powers #18 Spartans Past DeSales

YORK, Pa. - The No. 18 York College field hockey team rolled to a 4-0 victory over DeSales at home on Saturday.

Team Records
DeSales: 8-7
#18 York: 12-4

How It Happened
The Spartans jumped out to a 2-0 first quarter courtesy of a pair of tallies by Katelyn Landis who finished with three goals on the day. The first came 11 minutes in when Kate Egan played a pass back to Landis who then lifted it into the upper left corner of the cage from close range. With less than a minute to play in the opening period Landis found the back of the net again on a tip-in from a Jade Haines shot from the right slot.

York got back on the board in the 22nd minute when Michaela Cokinos slipped a pass through traffic to Ana Kenst who shoveled a shot past Bulldog goalie Lily Trocki for her second goal of the season. Landis went back to work with 10 seconds left in the first half as she finished off a feed from Arin Lee at close range.

The Spartans ended the first half with an 11-3 shot advantage, including a 10-2 margin in shots on goal, with Trocki recording six saves. The Bulldog netminder went on to make six saves in the third quarter as the Spartans peppered her with eight total shots. Trocki then went on to make three more saves in the fourth to keep scoreless in the second half.  The York defense limited the Bulldogs to just one shot in the second half and just four on the day.

Notes
York is now 4-0 all-time against DeSales since the series began in 2011 … Katelyn Landis now has a pair of hat tricks on the season and moved into the team lead with 11 goals and 25 points on the season … the Spartan defense has now posted three-straight shut outs for a total of six on the season … DeSales goalie Lily Trocki has six double-digit save performances on the season and her 14 saves on Saturday are the second-most of the season … the four shots by DeSales are the second-fewest of the year by the Bulldogs … York has held 10 opponents less than 10 shots this season.

Up Next
The Spartans will be back at Kinsley Field on Wednesday for a Commonwealth heavyweight tilt with No. 23 Messiah at 7 p.m.
