Spartans Rally To Capture Road Win Over Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The York College men's basketball made a late push in a come-from-behind Commonwealth victory at Messiah on Saturday.

The Spartans overcame a 17-point deficit in the first half and kept rallying throughout the second half which ultimately led to an 18-8 game-winning run in the final four minutes of play.

Team Records
York: 16-3 (6-2 MACC)
Messiah: 4-15 (0-8 MACC)

How It Happened
Messiah dominated the first half and went ahead by 12 (20-8) on an Avery Kopcha three-pointer just under eight minutes after the opening tip. The Falcon lead remained at double-digits through most the half and swelled to 17, the largest lead by either team on the day, when Kopcha knocked another three with 3:45 left to make the score 40-23 in favor of the host squad.

York responded with an 11-2 run to finish the half and managed to trim the deficit to eight (42-34) heading into the break courtesy of an Ethan Glass three-pointer with four seconds left.

The Spartans continued to fight their way back throughout the second half and took the lead for just the second time on a pair of made free throws by Cooper Haberern with 4:24 left. With those two free throws, York went on to out-score the Falcons 18-8 the rest of the way with Glass delivering the decisive blow on a second-chance three-pointer which put the Spartans ahead by seven with 44 seconds to play.

York out-scored Messiah 57-40 in the second half, while shooting 47.2% from the field and committing just two turnovers. Jayden Rowe led all players with 18 points in the second half and Haberern scored all 17 of his points with a three triples and six made free throws.
