LYNCHBURG, VA – The #11 York College Spartans dropped a 3-1 road decision at #21 University of Lynchburg Hornets on Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg, VA.
After York took a 1-0 lead to the half, the Hornets scored a goal in the third and two more in the fourth to pull away with the victory in the battle of ranked squads.
The Spartans are now 5-3 overall while the Hornets stand at 5-2.

How It Happened
• The Spartans found their offensive footing late in the first quarter.
Kelbie Linebaugh registered the first shot of the game as the fired a shot on goal in the 11
th minute of play. The Spartans' second shot found the back of the cage as
Hannah Downs recorded an unassisted goal 12:07 into the game for the 1-0 lead.
• The second quarter was a little more active offensively but that activity didn't result in any scoring. The Spartans went to the half holding a 7-2 margin in total shots, a 3-1 margin in shots on goal and a 5-2 bulge in penalty corners. All seven penalty corners came in the second quarter.
• It didn't take the Hornets long into the second half to notch the equalizer. Lynchburg drew a penalty corner 1:09 into the third quarter. They converted the corner into a goal from Saar Prins just over 20 seconds later, knotting the score at one. The third quarter was statistically balanced with the Hornets holding a 4-3 margin in shot but York had a 2-1 margin in shots on goal. Both teams had two penalty corners.
• The fourth quarter provided more action as both teams scrambled for the go-ahead goal. York had back-to-back shots on goal five minutes into the quarter but Shay Schoones made a pair of saves in goal for the Hornets. Lynchburg had back-to-back penalty corners but were only able to register a shot that went wide on the second one.
• Lynchburg broke the tie with 5:20 left in regulation as Fenna den Bieman converted an unassisted goal for the 2-1 Hornet lead. The Spartans got one more corner chance but that was their lone chance to notch the equalizer.
• Lynchburg recorded an insurance goal with 1:45 left in the game, providing for the final 3-1 score.
• York finished the game with a slight 14-12 edge in total shots while also holding a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. York also had an 11-9 margin in penalty corners. Lynchburg made six saves in the win while York had just two stops.

York is now 7-11 all-time against the Hornets as teams have split their last two meetings, both winning at home …. York is now 1-2 against nationally ranked teams so far this year … the game against Lynchburg begins a stretch of three straight games against nationally ranked squads and four straight games against NCAA qualifiers from last year … York's schedule is currently the seventh toughest in all of Division III … the goal for
Hannah Downs is her second of the campaign … for the second time this year, the Spartans out shot and opponent and lost (12-11 vs. Johns Hopkins).
