Early Own Goal Sinks Spartans on Tuesday at Gettysburg

The game was even in every aspect except the scoreboard

GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College men's soccer team saw their six-game unbeaten streak come to a close with a 1-0 setback against Gettysburg College on the road on Tuesday night in Gettysburg.
The Spartans surrendered an own-goal in the game's eighth minute. That proved to be the lone tally in a tightly played contests between two balanced sides.
York is now 4-2-3 overall while the Bullets are 5-3-1.

How It Happened
The Spartans found themselves down early thanks to a play that was an own goal for the Green and White. The Bullets were pressuring York when a pass across the box couldn't get cleared and poked into the back of the goal by the Spartans.
• Both teams had first half opportunities over the remaining 36 minutes of the half. Both teams had five shots with York holding a slight 2-0 edge in shots on goal. The Spartans also held a 3-0 margin in corner kicks.
• The second half was played at a frenetic pace between two boxes. The Spartans and Bullets ended up with almost identical stats in the second half, matching the first half. Both teams had four second stanza shots including two each on goal. The Bullets had a slim 2-1 margin in corner kicks.
• For the game, both teams had nine shots total while York held a slight 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. York also had a slim 4-2 edge in total corners.

Spartan Notes
The meeting between the two programs is the first since September 10, 2017 … York has lost four straight in the series as Gettysburg holds a 22-9-3 advantage in the all-time series … York was shutout for the second time this year, both 1-0 losses … their nine shots tied a season low (9 vs. Salisbury) while their four shots on goal were a new season low … sophomore Chase Broughman made two saves and allowed the hard-luck own goal … Broughman is now 3-1-2 for the year.
