CARLISLE, PA – The York College women's soccer squad saw their modest two game win come to an end with a 2-0 loss on the road at Dickinson College on Wednesday afternoon in Carlisle.
After a scoreless first half, the Red Devils got a pair of second half goals for the deciding tallies.
The Spartans fall to 5-3 overall while the Red Devils improve to 3-2-1.
How It Happened
• The Red Devils controlled the early play but not like that stats might have indicated. The Red Devils held an 8-2 margin in total shots but the shots on goal told a different story as Dickinson had a slight 1-0 edge in that category. Both teams had one corner kick in the opening 45 minutes of play.
• The Red Devils broke the scoreless tie in the 50
th minute as Ava Prisco scored off a pass from Joelle Ma. The Red Devils tacked on a penalty kick goal just over two minutes later as Ma converted the opportunity for the 2-0 lead.
• The Spartans battled to get back into the game but the offense was just unable to create any sustainable possession in Dickinson's defensive third.
• The Red Devils out shot the Spartans 14-7 in total shots but a mere 3-1 in shots on goal. Both teams had four corner kicks in the match.
Spartan Notes
The Spartans are now 7-10-2 all-time against the Red Devils after the two teams tied last year in York … the Spartans have now been shut out twice this year (Aug. 29 vs. Washington & Lee, 3-0) …. York's seven total shots were their lowest total of the year as were the one total shot on goal.
Up Next
The Spartans are now off until next Wednesday afternoon when they head to Salisbury University to face the Sea Gulls in a non-conference contest. Kick-off is slated for 4:00 pm in Salisbury, Maryland.
