Field Hockey Extends Win Streak to Four

The Spartans downed Bryn Mawr 2-1 on Saturday in Bryn Mawr, PA.

BRYN MAWR, PA – The #14 York College field hockey team extended their win streak to four with another tight 2-1 win at Bryn Mawr College on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Bryn Mawr, PA.
Three of the Spartans four straight wins have come by one goal while the other win was a 3-1 victory. Three of those wins have come against Centennial Conference schools.
York is now 4-1 overall while the Owls fall to 2-3.

How It Happened
• The Spartans found themselves down very early in the game. The Owls drew a penalty corner 3:51 into the game. They used that corner opportunity to get a Leya Patel goal for the 1-0 lead. The goal was her third of the campaign.
• York never got going offensively in the first 15 minutes of play as the Owls held the Spartans without a shot or a corner. Bryn Mawr's only penalty corner resulted in the game's lone goal.
• The Spartans gained a little more offensive traction in the second quarter. They were able to have a 3-1 advantage in shots in the second period in the very defensive oriented first half.
• After some halftime adjustments, the Spartans finally got rolling on the offensive end of the field in the third quarter. The Spartans wasted little time in tying the game out of the intermission. Sophomore Claire Burrows notched her second goal of the year, tying the game at one just 2:07 into the half. York struck again on a penalty corner less than two minutes later. Hannah Downs inserted the corner to Jade Haines who slipped a pass to Emma Fowler. Fowler scored her first goal of the year to give York the 2-1 lead with almost the entire second half to play. With about four minutes left in the quarter, the Spartans had another offensive surge but the Owls were able turn the Spartans away and keep it a one goal game.
• The Spartans were able to close out the game despite Bryn Mawr having some chances late. The Owls out shot York 4-1 in the fourth including a 2-0 edge in penalty corners. Fortunately for the Spartans, goalie Abby Miller maintained the Spartans' one goal lead.
• The final statistics were about as even as they could be. York held a 9-8 edge in total shots with both teams having six shots on goal. The Owls held a slight 5-3 advantage in penalty corners. York's Miller had five saves to earn the win for York.
