YORK, PA – The #13 Washington & Lee Generals scored three goals in the first half to capture a 3-0 win at York College on a beautiful Friday afternoon in York.
The Generals scored less than three minutes into the game and then twice within 90 seconds midway through the opening half to earn the win in the lid-lifter.
The Generals are now 1-0 while the Spartans are 0-1.
How It Happened
• W&L wasted little time in getting on the board with a bomb of a goal off the right foot of Sarah Zimmerman who scooped up a pass from Elizabeth Zimmerman. Sarah Zimmerman then hit a 35-yard rifle shot that hit off the bottom of the cross bar and snuggled in the goal just 2:39 into the game.
• The Generals maintained pressure on the Spartan defense and that pressure paid off with two goals in the 27
th and 28
th minutes to take the 3-0 lead. Megan Zimmerman scored off a Helen Otteni feeder for the 2-0 lead. Otteni then got a goal of her own 90 seconds later off a pass from Elizabeth Zimmerman.
• W&L out shot York 8-5 in the first half including 3-2 in shots on goal.
• The Spartans were more consistent in the second half but were never able to gain any significant offensive traction. Both teams had four second half shots and one corner each.
• The Generals out shot the Spartans 12-9 in total shots and 6-5 in shots on goal. W&L also held a 4-2 margin in corner kicks.
