YORK, Pa. - The York women's soccer team scored early and often in a 4-0 victory over Penn State Berks at home on Sunday as the Spartans captured their first win of the season.

How It Happened
The Spartans needed little time getting on the board as they converted a corner set piece in the third minute of play. Carissa Baugus swung a pass in from the right corner where it found an opening for Mackenzie Hanley to step to it and one-touch the ball into the back of the net for her first career goal.

The field remained tilted in York's favor throughout the remainder of the first half. The Spartans racked up a 14-0 total shot advantage with a whopping nine shots on target. After surrendering a tally on the game's first shot, Berks goalie Sophia Gonzalez regrouped and went to make eight saves before the halftime break.

York came out firing to start the second half and extended their lead to 2-0 just nine minutes out of the break. Lexi Mazzella knocked in a rebounded save following a shot by Alexys Savage to register her first goal of the season.

The Spartans remained on the hunt for more goals and rapidly doubled their lead to 4-0 with tallies in the 65th and 68th minutes. Mazzella once again found the back of the net after a leading pass by Anna Sis broke her free from the Lion defense. Meg Kalthof also joined the goal parade as she collected a center pass and maneuvered around her defender to open a shooting lane for her left-footed finish.

York finished the second half with a 14-1 shot advantage, including a 9-1 margin in shots on goal. The Green and White also mounted an 8-1 total margin in corner kicks for the game.
