GENEVA, Ohio – Spartan thrower
Andrew Mott capped off his illustrious career securing All-America honors in the shot put on Friday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the SPIRE Institute.
Mott earned First Team All-America honors with a fourth-place finish which goes down as his best finish ever in the shot put at nationals (indoor or outdoor). He posted a top throw of 17.48m (57' 4.25") on this third attempt out of six which is his second-best career throw and just .41m (1' 4.25") off his all-time best.
The Spartan graduate student is now a two-time outdoor All-American in the shot put, earning second-team honors (9th place) last season as a senior.
Adam Strouf of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the event with a personal-best throw of 18.50m (60' 8.5") which he posted on his first throw of the day. The senior completed the NCAA sweep in the shot this year as he also won the indoor title back in March. Isaiah Brunache of SUNY Cortland took second with a personal-best throw of 18.20m (59' 9") and Yakob Ekoue took third with a season-best throw of 17.73m (58' 2") after he won the discus national title on Thursday.
For his outdoor shot put career, Mott is a two-time NCAA All-American, at two-time NCAA national qualifier, is a two-time Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) champion, a three-time MAC medalist and holds the school record with a throw of 17.89m (85' 8.5").
