Women's Lacrosse Runs Win Streak to Seven

The #8 Spartans rolled past Hood 22-1 on Wednesday

FREDERICK, MD – The #8 York College women's lacrosse squad rolled to their seventh straight win as they bounced Hood College 22-1 in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday in Frederick, Maryland.
The Spartans scored nine in the first quarter and never looked back in earning their sixth league win of the year.
York improves to 13-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference while the Blazers fall to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
 
How It Happened
The Spartans came flying out of the gate as they scored a pair of goals in the opening five minutes of the game. Logan Ward and Zoe Kluegel gave York the 2-0 lead. The Green and White picked up the scoring pace as the quarter progressed. Kluegel gave York a 3-0 lead before the Spartans scored six goals in the final 5:45 of the period. Katie Jeanes, Kluegel, Gianna Huet, Sydney Mentzer, Ward and Sofie Steel each scored a goal for the Spartans on the run.
• The Spartans continued their offensive onslaught in the second as they tacked on five more goals to take a 14-0 lead to the intermission. Huet, Juliana Silvernale, and Natalie Neiman each scored before Steel netted the final two goals of the quarter.
• York pushed the lead to 16-0 with goals from Silvernale and Kluegel before Hood broke up the shutout with a Julia Gregory goal with 9:32 left in the third. York finished the stanza with two more goals as Kiera McPhillips and Leigha Saurbaugh each scored for the 18-1 lead.
• The Spartans closed out the game with a four-goal fourth quarter. Abby Tartal, Riley Coltenback, Saurbaugh and Keeley Ballard provided the Spartans with their final margin of victory.

The Spartans will play their biggest MAC Commonwealth game of the year on Saturday in their regular season finale as they host fellow conference unbeaten Messiah. The Spartans and Falcons are locked in a first-place tie and the winner of the game claims the regular season championship and the top seed in next week's MAC Commonwealth tournament. First draw is set for 1:00 pm at Kinsley Field. Both teams enter the game 13-3 overall and 6-0 in the league.
