YORK, PA – The #8 York College women's lacrosse team closed out their 2025 non-conference schedule with a 14-5 victory over the University of Mary Washington Eagles on an overcast Wednesday afternoon in York.
The loss for the Eagles snaps their six-game win streak as they have been rolling through the 2025 campaign.
York improves to 7-3 overall while the Eagles fall to 10-2.
How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a blistering start as they found the back of the net four times in the first 3:04 of the game.
Logan Ward notched the opening salvo with a goal just 46 seconds into the game.
Sydney Mentzer followed just under a minute later off a pass from Ward. Mentzer scored a second goal just 50 seconds later to put the Green and White up 3-0.
Gianna Huet capped the opening spurt with a free position goal. The Eagles got on the board midway through the quarter but
Zoe Kluegel got that goal back with six seconds left in the period to give York the 5-1 advantage after 15 minutes of play.
• York kept rolling with two goals to start the second quarter as Kluegel and
Katie Jeanes put York up 7-1. Mary Washington got a Tori Mueller goal with 46 seconds left in the half but Huet answered that goal with one of her own with just five seconds left before the break.
• Mentzer opened the second half scoring at the 13:42 mark, putting York up 9-2. The two teams traded goals over the remaining six minutes of the third quarter as York led 11-4 heading to the fourth quarter.
• The Spartans continued to carry the play in the fourth quarter as York scored three straight to take a 14-4 advantage. Mary Washington scored the final goal of the game to provide for the final 14-5 score.
