Baseball Drops Series Finale at Messiah

The Spartans fell behind early and were never able to catch up

GRANTHAM, PA – The York College baseball team dropped game three of their MAC Commonwealth series against Messiah, falling 5-3 in the decisive game of the series.
The Spartans fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and were not able to overcome the early deficit.
York falls to 15-14 overall and 10-5 in the Commonwealth while the Falcons improve to 19-12 overall and 13-2 in the league.

How It Happened
• The Falcons jumped on the Spartans for three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Dylan Beard opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center to put the Falcons up 1-0. Jarrett Gordon made it 3-0 with a two-out, two-run single to right.
• York got on the board in the top of the third as Lucas Prendergast blasted a solo home run to right center, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Falcons got the run back in the fourth an Evan Wagaman RBI single after the Spartans had an error to extend the inning.
• The Green and White trimmed their deficit in the fifth as Matthew Wade collected an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error. Prendergast singled to center to score Wade as York trailed 4-2. The Falcons responded in the bottom of the fifth as Dylan Beard hit a lead-off homer to left, pushing the Messiah lead back to 5-2.
• York got an RBI double from Chris Nesensohn in the seventh but the Falcons brought in closer Noah Barrall who limited the Spartans to a pair of walks as he picked up the seven out save.

York is now 55-17 all-time against Messiah but the Falcons have won six of the last nine games in the series … York falls to 7-7 on the road while Messiah improves to 10-2 at home … York is now 2-4 in games decided by two runs or less … York is 1-4 when scoring between three and five runs in a game … the loss is just the second for the Spartans when allowing between three and five runs in a game (8-2) … York is 4-7 when their opponent scores in the first inning … York is 2-5 when they allow a home run to an opponent … the Spartans are now 4-12 when being out-hit by their opponent … York was held to three runs for the second straight game … York tied a season-high as they struck out 13 times in the contest (13 vs. Lynchburg on March 1) … the 13 strikeouts are just the fourth time York has reached double figures in K's … York allowed double figures in hits for the second straight game and the 19th time this year … Lucas Prendergast picked up his tenth multi-hit game of the year and his seventh multi-RBI … Prendergast also extended his current reached base safely streak to 26, tied for the team lead with Jacob Deimling.
