How It Happened
• The Seahawks got on the board in the top of the first courtesy of a Trevor Smith RBI to left. It could have been a bigger inning as St. Mary's left runners at second and third at the end of the inning. The Spartans answered with two run bottom of the frame.
Gabe Trevena doubled, moved to second on a
Michael Tinneny single and then scored on a wild pitch. Tinneny came around to score on a
Jason Cassidy single to center.
• York tacked on two more runs in the second as they loaded the bases with one out. A failed pick-off attempt allowed one run to score and then Trevena had an RBI ground out to make it 4-1 Spartans.
• St. Mary's loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth. They cashed in on an infield single and a subsequent error that allowed two runs to score as the Spartan lead was trimmed to 4-3. The Seahawks took the lead in the top of the sixth as they again loaded the bases with no one out. A hit batter tied the game and an Ian Walters single up the middle gave the visitors a 5-4 lead.
• The Spartans recaptured the lead in the bottom of the sixth as
Chris Nesensohn ripped a two run double off the right field wall to give York 6-5 lead. Nesensohn came around to score on a Trevena sacrifice fly to right. The Seahawks scored a single run in the seventh on a Cole Tarleton single just inside the left field line. York answered in the bottom of the frame with a majestic solo bomb to right center, restoring the 8-6 lead.
• After a quiet top of the eighth, the Spartans got three huge insurance runs. York loaded the bases with one out and then got a sacrifice fly from Tinneny. Cassidy then capped the scoring with a two-out, two-run single for the final 11-6 margin of victory.
