ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The York College baseball squad picked up their first two wins of the year as they swept the St. Mary's College Seahawks in a non-conference twin bill on Saturday in St. Mary's City.
The Spartans won game one 15-3 and then posted a come-from-behind 12-10 victory in the nightcap.
The Spartans improve to 2-5 while St. Mary's falls to 0-6.

How It Happened
• The Spartans got on the board in the first as
Michael Tinneny and
Chris Betler had back-to-back doubles to give York the 1-0 lead. The Seahawks tied the game in the second on a Layne Lesko squeeze after Adrian Auber doubled with one out in the second.
• York took the lead for good in the top of the third.
Gehrig Fleming singled to lead off the inning and eventually came around to score on a Betler single to center for 2-1 Spartan lead.
• York blew the game open in the fifth with their largest inning of the year. The Spartans plated nine runs on just two hits with one St. Mary's error. The Spartans were hit by four pitches and drew four walks in the frame.
Gabe Trevena had one of the hits, an RBI single while Tinneny had the other hit, an RBI single that scored the ninth run of the inning.
• The Seahawks got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the frame on two hits and a Spartan error. The Green and White tacked on three more runs in the sixth.
Jacob Deimling ripped an RBI triple to score
Jason Cassidy who had walked to start the inning. Deimling scored on an
Alex Neeld double. Neeld moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a
Chris Nesensohn sacrifice fly. York added their final run on a
Dawson Shelley RBI ground out in the top of the seventh.
• Sophomore
Evan Hughes went the distance to pick up his first win of the year. He allowed three runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts, one walk and a trio of hit batters. Hughes needed just 66 pitches for his complete game.

How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a fast start in game two.
Lucas Prendergast was hit by a pitch to open the game. He came around to score on a
Gabe Trevena double to left center, putting York on top 1-0 after two batters. Trevena came around to score on a
Michael Tinneny double to right center for the 2-0 Spartan lead. Tinneny scored on a
Jason Cassidy single to center. Cassidy eventually came around to score on a
Chris Nesensohn fielder's choice RBI for the 4-0 Spartan lead.
• The Seahawks got a single run back in the bottom of the first on a Trevor Smith RBI single. St. Mary's tied the game in the bottom of the third with a three-run inning. Smith had a second RBI single for the first run of the frame. Ian Walter had a sacrifice fly and Rhett Fletcher tied the game at four on an RBI single.
• St. Mary's took a 6-4 lead one inning later as Cole Tarleton ripped a two-run double to right center as the Seahawks took the lead. York trimmed their deficit by one in the sixth as
Gehrig Fleming lifted a sacrifice fly to left as York was one run down after the inning.
• The Green and White tied the game in the top of the seventh as Trevena tripled to center to kick off the frame. Tinneny plated Trevena with a sacrifice fly, knotting the score at six. The Spartans loaded the bases with two outs and
Chris Betler scored on a wild pitch, giving York an 7-6 lead. Nesensohn pushed the lead to 9-6 with a two-run single through the right side, capping the three-run inning for York.
• St. Mary's wasted little time in tying the game at nine in the bottom of the seventh. Layne Lesko scored on a wild pitch and then George Berbakos tripled to left center, plating a pair and tying the game at nine.
• The Spartans loaded the bases in the top of the ninth and with one out, Nesensohn drew a walk to drive home York's tenth run of game two.
Lucas Prendergast then delivered a clutch two out single to left to score a pair and give the Spartans some insurance heading to the bottom of the ninth.
• St. Mary's got a run in the ninth but Prendergast's huge hit gave closer
Ethan Kennedy some wiggle room as the grad righty picked up his first save of the year.
