How It Happened
• The Spartans scored in the top of the first as Gabe Trevena had an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and came around to score on a Michael Tinneny RBI single to left.
• After a quiet first, the Diplomats hit the Spartans with a three-run bottom of the second. Back-to-back doubles from Nick Lorenzo and Matt Hollender tied the game at one but the Spartans were able to get the second out of the inning. Michael von Zuben then singled home Hollendar. An infield single put Diplomats at the corners. F&M executed a double steal to take the 3-1 lead.
• Another double steal in the third pushed the Diplomat lead to 4-1 through three innings of play. Nick Digiacomo had a two-run double to left to put the home team up 6-1.
• York got a pair of runs back in the sixth as Chris Betler tripled down the right field line and scored on a Jason Cassidy RBI ground out to short. Matthew Wade then launched a rocket over the right center field fence for his first home run of the year.
• The Diplomats got those runs right back in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a pair of unearned runs as the lead grew back to five at 8-3.
• The Spartans got on track in the seventh as they loaded the bases with one out. Tinneny had another RBI single to make it 8-4. After a strikeout, Cassidy ripped a single to left to score two as York trailed 8-6.
• The Diplomats were the benefactor of a missed strike call as it looked as though Bryce Shaffer had struck out Hollender but York didn't get the call and Hollender made them pay with a solo shot down the left field line to lead off the bottom of the seventh. Shaffer retired the next six Diplomats he faced, giving York a chance to come back in the final two innings.
• York loaded the bases in the eighth but would not be able to push a run across. York got two runners on in the ninth but a nice defensive play from the Diplomats ended the game. York stranded 11 in the game.
