How It Happened
• The Spartans got on the board first in the top of the second. Alexis McDonaugh reached on a Bulldog error to start the frame. After a ground out, Emma Keller scored McDonaugh with an RBI single down the right field line. Morgan Sauers singled to move Keller to second before DeSales got a strikeout for out number two. Jordyn Woodling came up huge with a two-run double to left to give York a 3-0 lead.
• The Spartans added to the lead in the fifth with two runs courtesy of a McDonaugh two-out, two-run single to right center for the 5-0 lead. The Green and White closed out the game with three more runs in the sixth to activate the run-rule. The Spartans loaded the bases on three straight walks. Woodling unloaded them with a bases clearing double down the left field line for the 8-0 lead.
• Spartan starter Natalie Rietema twirled her second complete game shutout of the year as she handcuffed the Bulldogs on four singles. She did walk six as she was forced to pitch with traffic around her all day but that didn't prevent her from blanking the Bulldogs.
