How It Happened
The two teams swapped punches in a frantic first quarter with York ultimately prevailing, 4-3, by quarter's end. Cory Bergmann led the Spartans with three goals in the quarter and Davis Fisher provided a goal and an assist. Macky Peck posted two assists for Denison.

The Big Red out-scored the Spartans 3-1 in the second quarter including a tally by Peck with just three seconds left which gave Denison a 6-5 halftime lead. The Spartans shutdown the Denison man-up unit twice in the quarter and out-shot the Big Red 15-8, but Denison goalie Andrew Albert stood on his head and denied the Spartans seven times in the period.

Denison dominated the third quarter and out-scored the Spartans 4-1 with a 6-0 advantage in faceoff wins and a 6-2 edge in saves. The Big Red scored four-straight to start the third which produced a 7-1 run from the start of the second quarter. Gavin Gismondi managed to salvage a little momentum for York heading into the fourth as he scored in transition off a feed from Kyle Ettenhofer with 50 seconds left.

After falling behind 11-6 early in the fourth quarter, the Spartans did not roll over, but rather kept swinging and eventually rallied back to tie the game, 11-1, with 4:15 remaining in the game. Coleton Mahorney scored the final two goals of the comeback run in a span of 50 seconds as the Spartans played make-it, take-it on back-to-back faceoff wins.

Denison capitalized on a costly Spartan turnover with a Collin Murphy tally with 3:02 which held up as the game-winner after Albert made a pair of key saves down the stretch to seal the victory.
