How It Happened
• The Blazers reached Spartan starter Evan Hughes for a pair of runs in the second on a single, a double and back-to-back squeeze bunts to take a quick 2-0 lead. York answered in the bottom of the frame with a five-spot aided by a pair of Hood errors. Ryan Niedzialkowski got the first run home with a bases loaded walk. Chris Nesensohn tied the game at two on a sacrifice fly. Lucas Prendergast gave York a lead they would not relinquish with an RBI single to right. The second error allowed York to score their fourth run and the fifth came when Michael Tinneny got into a rundown allowing Prendergast to score from third on the play.
• York added to the lead in the fourth inning. Prendergast ripped a two-run double to right center and he came around to score on a Tinneny RBI single as the Spartan lead grew to 8-2. The Blazers got a pair of those runs back in the fifth as Hood got a single and a double to lead off the inning to put runners at second and third with no outs. Hughes got a strikeout and a foul out but surrendered a single to third baseman Matthew Stout to make it 8-4. Hood added a single run in the sixth on a Spartan error, cutting the Spartan advantage to 8-5.
• York got that run back in the sixth as Nesensohn walked and moved to third on a Prendergast single. After a shallow fly out, Nesensohn scored on a Tinneny ground out for the 9-5 advantage.
• The Spartans closed out the scoring in the seventh inning. Jacob Deimling led off the inning with an opposite field single. He moved to second on a wild pitch and then to third on a Joe Urban sacrifice bunt. Deimling rode home a pitch later as Matthew Wade blasted a no-doubt-about-it two-run homer to left field. Niedzialkowski then singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Nesensohn RBI double to right center for the 12-5 lead.
• Jason Cassidy got three outs on six pitches in the eighth and Jesse Bitzer closed out the game in the ninth as the Spartans earned their sixth league win of the year.
