How It Happened
• The Yellow Jackets got on the board first as Aaron Lautenschlager ripped a two-out double to left center to put the visitors up 1-0 in the top of the first. York answered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 2-1 lead.
• Randolph-Macon fashioned another two out rally in the top of the second. Back-to-back RBI singles from Jon Quici and Mason Bodnar put the Yellow Jackets up 3-2. The Spartans answered by loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the frame.
Lucas Prendergast singled home the first run of the inning to tie the game at three.
Gabe Trevena drove home a second run with an RBI fielder's choice. York's third run of the inning came when
Michael Tinneny made it 5-3 with an RBI ground out to second.
• The Yellow Jackets got a single run in the fourth. Once again, the Spartans got the first two outs of the inning only to have Bodnar score Quici who singled to start the uprising.
• The Spartans extended their lead with a three-run fifth inning to push their lead to 8-4. The Spartans loaded the bases with two outs.
Ryan Niedzialkowski drew a walk to plate one run.
Chris Nesensohn drew another walk for a second run. Prendergast scored the third run when he was hit by a pitch for the four-run Spartan lead.
• That lead proved to be short-lived as the Yellow Jackets erupted for a five-run top of the sixth inning to seize control of the game. The inning began with a solo home run to deep center by Logan Duff on the first pitch of the frame. After a walk, CJ Chatterton had an infield single followed by a Spartan error to put runners at the corners with no outs. A sacrifice fly from Quici cut the Spartan lead to 8-7. Lautenschlager tied the game with a single to left and he came around to score on a Chaz Harvey double to right as Randolph-Macon led 9-8.
• The Yellow Jackets tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh as Quici and Bodnar each had RBI singles as their lead grew to 11-8.
• York went quietly in the final three innings of the game as never brought the tying run to the plate.
