CARLISLE, PA – The #9 York College women's lacrosse squad rolled to an 11-6 non-conference win at Dickinson College on a crisp Wednesday afternoon in Carlisle.
The Spartans used a 7-0 run covering parts of three quarters to secure their third straight win.
The Spartans are now 6-2 overall while the Red Devils fall to 5-5 overall.
How It Happened
• The Spartans broke the ice in the first 1:54 of the game as
Logan Ward found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Red Devils answered with a pair of player-up goals. They scored the two goals in a 1:17 stretch to take a 2-1 lead.
Sofie Steel tied the game at two just under a minute later, notching the goal off a feed from
Zoe Kluegel at the 7:48 mark. The Red Devils took their final lead of the game with a Grace Kelly goal with just under five minutes remaining in the quarter.
Krista Yarusso knotted the game at three with her ninth goal of the year right before the end of the quarter.
• York controlled the second quarter scoring as
Sydney Mentzer gave York a short-lived 4-3 lead with a rocket goal on a free position shot a mere 34 seconds into the quarter. The Red Devils got a Sage Whiteside goal six minutes later but the Spartans notched the final two goals of the quarter for the 6-4 halftime lead. Spartan grad goalie
Bella Garabo had a great second quarter as she registered five second quarter saves.
• The Spartans came out flying after the half as they added to their two-goal halftime lead thanks to a dominating third quarter. York shutout Dickinson 4-0 in the quarter, turning their halftime lead into a 10-4 bulge Yarusso, Kluegel, Ward, and Steel scored goals for the Spartans. Garabo made another four saves in goal in keeping Dickinson off the board.
• York pushed their run to 7-0 with a
Gianna Huet player-up goal just under three minutes into the fourth quarter. The Red Devils finally halted the Spartan run with a goal at the 10:40 mark of the final period. Dickinson closed out the scoring with a goal 1:25 before the end of regulation to provide for York's final 11-6 margin of victory.
