YORK, Pa. - The 20th-ranked York men's lacrosse squad edged out Grove City, 14-13, in a fast-paced shootout at Kinsley Field on Saturday.

How It Happened
The Wolverines came out swinging and racked up a 3-0 lead within the first five minutes of play. The Spartans swung back and cut the Grove City lead to one after a pair of goals by Nate Schilling and Gavin Gismondi 54 seconds apart. Grove City went to net the final goal of the first quarter and then the first of the second quarter to regain a three-goal lead.

The two teams combined for nine goals in the second quarter with York owning a 5-4 edge in the period, but the Wolverines took a 9-8 lead into the halftime break. Cory Bergmann netted a pair for the Spartans in the second quarter and Zachary Hougan scored twice for Grove City.

The Spartans dominated both the turnover and faceoff battles in the third quarter which paid dividends on the scoreboard as they out-scored the Wolverines 5-1 to take an overall 13-10 lead. York also held a lopsided edge in shots (17-5) in the third quarter which was aided by an 11-6 edge in ground balls. Five different Spartans scored in the period, but Davis Fisher remained a constant force as he dished out three assists.

The Wolverines blitzed the Spartans to open the fourth quarter and ripped off three-straight goals in the first five minutes to even up the score, 13-13. Unfortunately for Grove City, the Alec Jones man-up goal with 10:12 left would wind up being the last tally of the game for the visitors and Blake Morton notched the game-winning goal with 7:45 left for the Green and White. The Spartan defense posted five-consecutive stops with three saves by Nash Womack to end the game.
