LANCASTER, Pa. - A last-second tally lifted No. 3 Franklin and Marshall to a 12-11 victory over the No. 20 York women's lacrosse team on Saturday.

The Spartans tied the game on a Sydney Mentzer goal with 1:06 left, but York turned it over on their ensuing possession and the Diplomats rapidly went end-to-end for the game-winning goal by Devyn Crone with four seconds left.

#3 Franklin and Marshall 4-0
#20 York 1-1

How It Happened
The Spartans and Diplomats traded blows all game long with neither team able to open up greater than a three-goal lead. York had the early advantage as they took a 4-1 lead midway through the first quarter courtesy of a three-point performance by Sydney Mentzer. F&M closed the gap in a hurry and scored three goals in the later half of the first period as York led, 5-4, through the first 15 minutes.

The Diplomats held the Spartans to just one goal in the second quarter while the F&M woman-up unit imposed damage with three goals to give the Dips an 8-6 halftime lead.

Despite being shutout at the draw in the third quarter, the Spartans out-scored the Dips as they picked up tallies from Gianna Huet and Mentzer to trail 9-8 heading into the fourth quarter.

The two teams combined for six goals in a back-and-forth fourth quarter battle. York pulled even with 9:00 to go on Zoe Kluegel's second goal of the game, but the Spartans came up empty on their next three possessions as the good remained tied with three minutes to play.

York and F&M combined for three goals inside the final three minutes starting with a Lauren Pittman tally for the Dips with 2:51 left and later Mentzer tied the game, 11-11, with 1:06 left on her fifth goal of the game. The Spartans won the ensuing draw, but then turned it over with 10 seconds left when Megan Bizub intercepted a pass by Sophie Steel. The Diplomats quickly matriculated down the field where Devyn Crone netted the eventual game-winner with just four seconds left to leave the Spartans stunned.
