How It Happened
• The Hornets got on the board in the bottom of the first. A single and two hit batters loaded the bases to start the inning as it looked like Lynchburg would blow the game open early. Spartan starter Owen Brockner got clean-up hitter Sean Pokorak to ground into a 6-4-3 double play scoring one to put Lynchburg on top 1-0. Brocker then got the final out of the inning to escape any further damage.
• The Spartans got a one-out double from Jacob Deimling in the top of the second but he wouldn't be able to advance the rest of the inning. York got two runners on in the third but, again, wouldn't be able to come up with the big knock in the inning.
• The Spartans finally got something cooking in the top of the sixth. Michael Tinneny opened the frame with a single to right. Chris Betler drew a walk, and after a fly out to center, Deimling walked to load the bases with one out. Alex Neeld then drew a walk to tie the game at one. The Hornets then went to the pen and reliever Tyce Fischl. He got a strikeout and a fly out to leave the bases loaded.
• The Hornets answered in the bottom of the sixth as Brockner easily got the first two outs of the inning. However, a Spartan error followed by a Benton Jones double gave the Hornets a 2-1 lead.
• Lynchburg got some insurance in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out rally. An infield single and a walk followed by an RBI single gave the Hornets a 3-1 lead. A Spartan wild pitch made it 4-1 before York could get out of the inning.
• The Hornets closed out the scoring in the bottom of the eighth with another two-out rally. This time a double steal with runners at the corners was the method of scoring for the home team. York went quietly in the ninth.
