Cipalla Named to a Pair of All-Region Squads

The Spartan senior was the D3hoops Region 5 Player of the Year

YORK, PA – York College senior forward Kai Cipalla has earned a pair of all-region awards on Tuesday by two national organizations. He was named the D3hoops.com Region 5 Player of the Year in addition to being a member of the first team. Cipalla also earned NABC first-team All-Region 5 honors.
 
Cipalla is the second Spartan to earn the D3hoops.com regional Player of the Year joining Chad McGowan who earned the honor after the 2006-07 season.
 
Cipalla is now a two-time All-Region 5 first-team honoree as he was recognized as an all-region player last year. Cipalla is now the fourth Spartan to earn multiple all-region honors. He joins Brandon Bushey (2003-04, 2004-05, and 2005-06), McGowan (2005-06, 2006-07, and 2007-08) and Andy O'Brien (2001-02 and 2002-03) as Spartans to earn the honor multiple times.
 
Cipalla finished the year averaging 20.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game as he played a team-high 34.8 minutes per game. Cipalla shot 57% from the floor, 30% from three and 67.2% from the free throw line.
 
He was named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year as he earned MAC All-Commonwealth honors for the third time in his Spartan career. He led the MAC Commonwealth in scoring and field goal percentage. His 221 made field goals were 58 more than the next player in the Commonwealth. Cipalla was second in the league in free throws made at 123, seven back of the top spot. He ranked sixth in total rebounds including third in offensive rebounds with 74.
 
Cipalla finished his career with 1,444 points, 529 rebounds, 146 assists, 83 steals and 74 blocked shots. He was a career 57.9% shooter from the floor with 557 field goals. Cipalla was 279-for-404 (69.4%) from the free throw line. He played 2,629 minutes in his 80 career games. His 18.1 points per game average ranks fourth on the all-time Spartan list.
 
Cipalla will wear the Spartan Green and White one more time Saturday when the plays in the NABC Senior All-Star Game in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
