How It Happened
• York jumped on the Lions early with a five-run top of the first. Michael Tinneny started the scoring with a three-run blast to center for the 3-0 lead. Alex Neeld followed with a solo homer to center. Matthew Wade then scored Joe Urban for the 5-0 lead. The Lions loaded the bases on the first three batters of the bottom of the first but Owen Brockner only allowed one run on an RBI fielder's choice. He got out of the inning with a 6-4-3 double play to end the frame.
• York added to the lead in the fourth as Dawson Shelley was hit by a pitch, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Tinneny RBI single to center. The Lions scrapped for three runs in the fourth thanks to five base hits, cutting the York lead to 6-4.
• The Spartans answered with a three spot in the top of the fifth. Nesensohn was plunked by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the first run of the inning. Shelley drove home the second run with a fielder's choice ground out and Lucas Prendergast got the third run with an RBI single up the middle for the 9-4 lead. That would be more than enough for York as Bryce Shaffer came out of the bullpen and was dazzling over the final five innings of the game. Shaffer struck out six and scattered two hits in his shutout performance.
• York closed out the scoring with a Wade sacrifice fly in the ninth, providing for the final 10-4 margin of victory.
