Spartans Drop a Pair at #9 Lynchburg to Open the Season

The Spartans fell in a walk-off in the nightcap

LYNCHBURG, VA – The York College baseball team opened their 2025 campaign with a pair of losses to #9 Lynchburg on Saturday. York dropped game one 17-1 in a game that got out of hand late and then a heart-breaking 6-5 walk-off loss in the nightcap.
The Hornets are now 8-1 overall while York is 0-2.

How It Happened
• After a scoreless first two innings, the Hornets struck for a five run third inning. A lead-off walk, an error, a sacrifice bunt and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out for Lynchburg. Catcher Sean Pokorak delivered a two run single and a third run scored on a Spartan error. The Hornets got another RBI single and then squeezed home a fifth run for the big inning.
• Benton Jones got a sacrifice fly to center in the fourth to make it 6-0. The Hornets tacked on four runs in the seventh. Some sloppy Spartan play led to the inning as Lynchburg made it 10-0.
• The Hornets removed all doubt with a seven run eighth inning. York got an Alex Neeld RBI single to avoid the shutout in the top of the ninth.

How It Happened
• The Spartans opened the scoring in the third as Jacob Deimling ripped a two-out single to score a pair and put York on top early. York made it 3-0 in the top of the fourth as Gabe Trevena had an RBI ground out.
• The Hornets got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as they scored on an RBI ground out, trimming York's lead to 3-1. Lynchburg used a big fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead as they knocked Spartan starter Brandon Purdy out of the game. Joe Munitz had a two-run single in the frame to tie the game at three. Conner Moore gave the Hornets a lead on a sacrifice fly.
• York tied the game in the top of the seventh as Ryan Niedzialkowski had a bases loaded sacrifice fly. York took a temporary 5-4 lead in the eighth as Lucas Prendergast tripled to right and scored on a Gabe Trevena sacrifice fly to right center.
• The Hornets walked it off in the bottom of the ninth as they loaded the bases with three infield singles. Munitz won the game with a single to right, scoring a pair, ending the game.
